Liam: taking holidays at lake Como is beautiful, the food's the bollocks

Again, as if he was reading what I was writing the other day, 'cause he knows oasisblues.
A black cat in Italy doesn't bring luck, it's the contrary. But if there are English people, it does :).
It comes as no surprise that the notoriously cantankerous former Oasis frontman has opinions. Here are some of his favorite—and least favorite—things in life.
You've heard a lot from Liam Gallagher over the past couple decades. He has a thing for words. Choice ones. Specifically about things he doesn't care for. So, since he has more going on now than since the days of Wonderwall (his new Noel-less band Beady Eye; a new single and video, "Roller"; and his own clothing line, Pretty Green, which is now available in the U.S.) we were curious what he actually likes. We asked him and got 10 things. Plus, three things he loathes. And, for good measure, 14 instances of the word "fuck." So proceed with caution, ye of Puritan minds.

1. My Favorite TV Shows

"I love 'Judge Judy.' And, fucking, who's the black guy with the bald head? Montel. My wife and I love that shit. Also, I like that 'Celebrity Rehab' you have in America, too. I was watching it on TV and then I went out the night after to this Marilyn Manson gig, and that guy from Grease with the walking stick—what's his fucking name? He died a couple weeks ago? [Jeff Conaway.] He was there and asked me if I wanted a line. I'm like 'What the fuck? You're meant to be in fucking rehab.'"

2. Central Park

"New York is my favorite city in the world. I don't make it downtown much but I love Central Park. I've got to be by trees, otherwise I get claustrophobic. The people there—they don't take no crap either. Reminds myself a bit of me, so I like it."

3. Ginger Ale

"These days, I'm sticking to ginger ale. I'm having a bit of a time off from drinking. I haven't had anything since New Year's Eve. I'm just having a breather. I've been drinking for 25 years, man. When I do go out though, I drink absolutely fucking everything."

4. Quadrophenia

"I'm fucking obsessed with Quadrophenia. It gets me right off. I love that ballroom scene where he jumps off the balcony."

5. Levi's 504s

"I don't like jeans with holes in 'em. I like 'em faded. Levi's 504s never let me down. I like that they're a little tight in the butt, too."

6. The Beatles

"My favorite album would have to be something from The Beatles. Fucking Abbey Road? A Hard Day's Night! John Lennon's Imagine. I like everything they've done."

7. The Black Cat at Lake Como near Milano

"I take holiday at Lake Como a lot. Pretty expensive, but beautiful. If you go up there in the mountains there's a restaurant called The Black Cat (Gatto Nero). It's outside, on a cliff, and you look over the fucking lake. The food's the bollocks. It's amazing." [he's mad for Gorgonzola cheese, it stinks but very good]

8. Garrett Leight sunglasses

"I like Lennon-style sunglasses. I got these in Barneys the other day. I need some proper lenses in these motherfuckers though. I've lived without them for so long though, so, actually, fuck it."

9. Style Hero: Paul Weller

"There's no one I want to be, but Paul Weller of The Jam has always looked so cool. My label, Pretty Green, is a reference to one of his songs. He did a Paul Weller for Pretty Green collection for Summer 2011, too."

10. Gibson Guitars

I don't like posh guitars. I don't like them Martins even. They're a bit too smooth and polite for me. I like guitars that are fucking loud. I've got a Gibson 1962 Hummingbird, which is a bit beat up. It's probably my favorite.

And now we bring you three entirely unessential things...

1. Muse

"Muse fucking scares me. They're like fucking creepy shit. But people like 'em. They at least play guitars, but when I hear his voice I'm like, 'Ah, fuck him.'"

2. Technology

"I don't use gadgets. Like, people do all this shit on their phones. I just use it to ring my Mrs. and mates. Never sent an e-mail in me life. I've got no apps. I don't even know how to download music."

3. Umbrellas

[After being asked by a doorman if he would like an umbrella in the rain during the interview:] "An umbrella? I only use those to stick up people's asses."

Liam the Legend! Finally someone saying it out loud. So far, 900 likes of this on the NME site (now more than 1000) say enough about the shit Muse are. Only a few children crying as in the '90s they had their nappies changed. The shit of the new generation.

It's good news for denim giant Levi's, the Fab Four and the owners of the Black Cat restaurant (Gatto Nero in Cernobbio, it's where he celebrated his birthday - Marco) near Lake Como, not far from Milan, Italy.
Muse and manufacturers of umbrellas, however, will have less to cheer about.
In an interview with the US edition of men's style mag GQ, Liam Gallagher listed his 10 essentials, including props for New York's Central Park and ginger ale.

Beady Eye's frontman Liam has claimed he's frightened of Muse, declaring their music to be "fucking creepy shit".
He said that although he respects the Devon band's guitar-based approach, singer Matt Bellamy's voice isn't to his liking.
"Muse fucking scares me," the former Oasis frontman declared. "People like 'em. They at least play guitars, but when I hear his voice I'm like, 'Ah, fuck him'."
He also claimed that late actor Jeff Conaway offered him "a line" during one of his trips to the US.
"I went out … to this Marilyn Manson gig, and that guy from Grease with the walking stick—what's his fucking name? He died a couple weeks ago. He was there and asked me if I wanted a line. I'm like 'What the fuck? You're meant to be in fucking rehab'."
The troubled Grease star passed away earlier this year after battling drug and alcohol addiction. Liam didn't specify when the incident occurred, but mentioned it happened the night after he watched US TV show Celebrity Rehab, which has been broadcast since 2008.

"An umbrella? I only use those to stick up people's asses." (ahahaha)

On the Beatles, Liam said: "My favorite album would have to be something from the Beatles. Fucking 'Abbey Road?' 'A Hard Day's Night!' John Lennon's 'Imagine.' I like everything they've done."
With the former hell-raiser off the sauce since the beginning of the year, the merits of ginger ale were highlighted, as well as former Jam lynchpin and Britpop '"Modfather" Paul Weller. "There's no one I want to be, but Paul Weller of the Jam has always looked so cool. My label, Pretty Green, is a reference to one of his songs. He did a Paul Weller for Pretty Green collection for Summer 2011, too."

VENICE - Summertime little trips, just some pics around, as I was posting about Noel Gallagher's "honeymoon in romantic Italy". But we don't get marry lol, we just wanna have fun.
Do you remember the English girls at the Football English pub last year, here they are.
As for that Oasis concert in Tuscany with two English girls, here two again... I have threesomes only, lol.
Next little trip (very little 'cause it's very close), I wanna go to take some photos @ Como lake again, where Liam and Beady Eye always go, soon again. But these girls are back in England now. So the "kids are running around naked, fucking in bushes" will be with someone else, lol.
There are enough bushes & nature around Como :)), in Venice there aren't.
Time ago I used to travel a lot, without knowing anyone in the places where I was going, never happened anything really bad but now I'd want to have at least a contact with someone who's already there, to go to a new place, 'cause I'd need help or to know where to go, etc., I don't believe much in travel guide books, I believe more in myself Guido :).  As for Venice, I repeat again: be careful when you go there, especially if you're Japanese, 'cause they always try to make you pay more everywhere, even the boats (the only transport there, no cars around).

I wanted to make a compilation with all their songs, but then I thought that Noel was obviously playing guitar on all of them, and he probably gave his opinion and changed some things, so he wasn't absent. I used some demos only, as to imagine a worse quality if there wasn't Noel (but he was playing on these demos too). Anyway, when you listen to the Beady Eye album, you don't notice, in the sound quality, the absence of Noel... Andy and Gem are two great guitarists.
So in that period (2000-2009), since Liam wrote the (fooled around) Little James and Oasis made their first appearance without Noel (Milan, 30 May 2000), Oasis started to be a different band (in 2000 in the Go Let It Out video Noel was even playing bass only), something intermediate between Oasis and Beady Eye.
It seems that in 1994 the successful Columbia from Definitely Maybe was first written by Liam, then Noel changed it. Later, Liam wrote a song, Love me and leave me, for the band Seahorses by John Squire (Stone Roses), they were @ Milan gig in 1997.

L'Angelo Misterioso: for you blue, Formula 1 fan

LIVERPOOL - Yesterday Ringo Starr, today something about George Harrison.
Everybody knows John Lennon is Liam Gallagher's idol, some even say he thinks to be him, but it's not true. When asked about his favourite song, album, etc., it's always something by George Harrison (or maybe naming one by the Beatles was just too obvious), Liam even said he's inspired by his style (for Pretty Green clothes too). As album, the triple All things must pass (nothing ever lasts forever lol), and as song Something (Beatles times), the biggest love song ever, also according to the Italian origins legend Frank Sinatra.
Liam on All things must pass: "That’s the best post-Beatles album. We all like it and that, but that was the best sounding fucking one. It’s got tunes that make me cry."
And sometimes he also says, e.g. at the end of a Twitter twit: "Beware of darkness", as the song by George.
Noel Gallagher probably took the word Wonderwall from the psychedelic "Wonderwall music" soundtrack by George: he was also a film producer, as Liam will be soon, about the Beatles. It would be great to make a psychedelic film, I have some ideas thanks to Beady Eye's psychedelic Wigwam too.
Harrison was the most psychedelic, India-influenced and mysterious Beatle, in a way (because introvert), and introduced the Indian sitar instrument in the Beatles music, also played by Oasis in songs as To be where there's life. Oasis also covered a Beatles song by George, Within you without you.
A curiosity: the song "Badge", co-written with Eric Clapton (they formed a close friendship in the late 1960s), was released on Cream's Goodbye album in 1969: George also played rhythm guitar on the song, and for contractual reasons, he was required to use the pseudonym "L'Angelo Misterioso" in Italian.
Pattie Boyd was wife of both George and Eric. She has claimed that she was the inspiration for love songs written by both musicians (but they didn't always agree): Harrison's "Something", "For You Blue", etc., and Clapton's "Layla", "Wonderful Tonight" and "Bell Bottom Blues".
Harrison had an interest in sports cars and motor racing. He was one of the 100 people who purchased the McLaren F1 road car, and would often attend Formula One races. He had collected photos of racing drivers and their cars since he was young: when he was 12 he attended his first race, the 1955 British Grand Prix at Aintree, in which Stirling Moss won his first Grand Prix. He wrote "Faster" as a tribute to the Formula One racing drivers Jackie Stewart and Ronnie Peterson. Proceeds from its release went to the Gunnar Nilsson cancer charity, set up following the Swedish driver's death from the disease in 1978. Harrison's first "important" car was recently sold at auction in Battersea Park, London. The 1964 Aston Martin DB5 was bought new and delivered to Harrison personally in 1965 at his Kinfauns estate in Esher, Surrey, England.
When I was a kid my favourite Beatle was Paul McCartney, 'cause he was the first one I've seen (and also met when we organized Literature Prizes, he also wrote poems), from Michael Jackson's duets in the '80s. And Paul had a pretty funny face, the girls liked him, so it was easy for a kid to take him as favourite one.
From George in those years I remember "I got my mind set on you", funny video for a kid.
But since I started to have a deep knowledge of the Beatles, I can say George is my favourite: the vast majority of their songs were "Lennon/McCartney", but his (22 in total) songs with them (also, Here comes the sun, While my guitar gently weeps, etc., and as solo artist My sweet lord, Wah wah - in a Pretty Green video on the column - , etc.), are precious stones in music history.

from Zani archives: interview to Noel

BRIGHTON - It's been told many times by Alan (the one reflected in the photo :), here's the first meeting with Oasis told by Noel many years ago (18 June 1994, it was just 1 year later), so he could remember it very well. From my archives I'll be posting more stuff like this.
Oasis were on the brink of massive success and this interview was prior to the release of Shakermaker.
Peom thought that it might be a good idea to interview them after I had seen them at the Old Trout in Windsor. I was over powered by their music and they dressed in a 90's mod style. That's a winner with me! Noel's self-belief and assertiveness for Oasis is so paramount in this interview and I was enthralled by this. It makes intriguing reading, a young man waiting for the big time to happen and fully aware of the antics of the music press. Noel had his head screwed on, he knew what he wanted and how to get it!
My only negative criticism is that he had a habit of slipping into a very negative outlook, which is very tiresome. I still rate Oasis as a band and only the Gallaghers are (were) left from the original line up, even the last album. They made the charts exciting in the 90's and Top of the Pops performances were colourful. That was the last time from a commercial perspective the top 50 sounded fresh.

It’s 7.15pm, and we’re late. We’d arranged to interview Noel Gallagher of Oasis in Brighton and we had this crazy mod romantic idea of hiring scooters for the trip. It was Mad Dog’s idea. A great idea in itself: except that Snotty Dog, and third member of the Peom entourage.
 So we tear through swing-doors of the Dudley Hotel in Brighton in our crash helmets. (“Remember the doors of the gaff we smashed?” – the Quadrophenia reference in this piece and not the last.)
The guests and hotel staff in reception stare at us perplexed, among them is Noel. I walk up to him.

“Sorry we’re late, Noel, but Snotty Dog kept falling off his scooter”.
Noel is unconcerned.“It’s alright mate, we’ve only just come back from the sound check”.
“So where do you want to do it?” I asked.
“Do what?”
“The interview”.
“I think me room will be best , don’t you?”
“Yeah, of course”.

My 1st question was about the history of Oasis.

Noel – Oasis started when our kid and the other three decided they were going to form a band. I was away in Europe or somewhere and I came back and me mam said “Oh Liam’s just formed a band” I said “ Do what”, “Singing”. So I went down to the gig that night at The Boardwalk and they were called OASIS and they had four songs. They were pretty awful and afterwards they said to me “Do you want to be our manager?” I said, “Fuck that, I am joining the fucking band. Take those trainers off and get a new bass in. We’re off to the top!” I liked barged me way in and started writing the songs and never looked back since.
We used to practice religiously three times a week, just writing songs. It was weird because once we got a record deal nothing changed; we were acting the same way as we were before. We always thought we were the greatest fucking band in England. We used to rehearse Saturday nights when everyone would go out. We’d be down the rehearsal room like all hours of the night and morning and our mates would be going. “What are doing? It’s Saturday night, everyone’s going out”. But it paid off in the end. Oasis make it look all very simple, but they’ve worked extremely hard. (Young bands start taking notes, they may come in useful)

So where exactly in Manchester do you come from?

Right on the South Burnage, it’s the last part of Manchester before you get to Greater Manchester it’s just like a little shitty suburb where fuck all happens it’s one pub and a chippie and a bookie and that’s it.

Oasis are in the position now that every young band wants to be in. Since October 1993, it’s been all go for Oasis; sell out shows, front covers of nearly all the music magazines and the ultimate teenage dream – Top of the Pops. Of course they couldn’t have got there without that all – important record contract. Bands can spend so much time trying to convince record companies of their potential. So, I asked how did you get yours.

Well it’s quite legendary story this now, but it was at this gig at King Tut’s in Glasgow. We hired a van, at the time we were on the dole and we didn’t have any money, we charged our mates fifteen quid each and there were about 20 of us. When we got to the gig, the promoter said
“Who are you?”
“We’re Oasis”
“You’re not playing here tonight”
“Yes we are, we’re playing with Boyfriend.”
“No, you’re not, you’re not down here.”
“Oh it’s alright coz they’ve asked us to play!”
“I’ve only got a licence for 2 bands. I can’t put 3 bands on so you’re not playing”.
So after six hours of arguing and shouting and threatening he let us play for twenty minutes just when the doors were opening. So we went on, there was like nobody in the club. 15 of our mates and that were it. But as luck would have it, Alan McGee of Creation Records had just missed his train from Glasgow back to London, he realised that Boyfriend were playing round the corner and he had an hour to kill.
So he was just going to come in and have a word with that lot and then get off, and as he walked in we had just walked on-stage so he was walking past the stage, this is what he said anyway, he took one look at us and thought THEY LOOK A BIT FUN.
One of the guys from Boyfriend came round to him and said “Ah these guys are from Manchester they kicked us out of our dressing room and drank all our cider and threatened to smash the club “up” and all it did was get Alan more interested in us.
We just did four songs and after we came off stage he came straight up to us and said “Have you got a record deal?”
“Do you want one?”
“Who with?”
“Creation” and he offered us a six-album deal and about a week later he phoned us and said, “What was your band called again?”
We were freaked out by it all.
All them years in the practice room, we always knew that we were really good. Even though we didn’t know about approaching record companies. I could never see myself walking into the offices of a record company going “This is my demo tape.”

But Noel hated the role he had taken on as player-manager, it got in the way of the creative process, and whilst out of all the members of Oasis he was willing to take the role as “the responsible one” someone was needed to deal with the business side of things fulltime, especially now they’d been offered a record deal.
So how did you begin your relationship with Marcus Russell, your manager?

That in itself is another interesting story. About 3 years previous I used to go to the Hacienda on a Saturday night and always used to bump into this little guy with a skinhead and chat to him as you do when you’re E ‘ed . I told him I was in a band and he said “Give us a tape, I’ll give it to our kid.” And every time I saw him, he’d say “Give us a tape for our kid.” And then I saw him just after we had the offer from Creation. I was just walking through town. And he says, “How’s the band going?” “Oh we’ve just been offered a record deal from Creation.” And I had this HMV bag with The The’s new album in it and when he saw it he goes “Fuckin hell, you’ll definitely have to get a tape to our kid.” I said “Well, hang on a minute, I don’t mean to be rude or nothing, but who the fuck is your kid” “Well it’s our Johnny innit?” and then it clicked Johnny Marr.
So I gets a him a tape, two hours later I had Johnny Marr on the phone. I fuckin freaked out. He said, “I’ve just heard your tape and think it’s amazing,” So we went out for a drink that night and he came along and brought his manager with him, Marcus Russell.

Were you a fan of The Smiths?

Definitely! Johnny Marr was the man who taught me to play guitar.

What bands made you want to be in a band?

The Jam, Stone Roses, The Smiths and The Beatles. I always used to bash about on this guitar, playing stuff like Hey Jude. Then in 1983 I saw The Smiths and I said, “That’s it! That’s the way I want to play guitar.” Then after that I saw John Squire from The Stone Roses cross them two with Paul Weller and John Lennon and that’s how I wanted to sound.

Did you ever get into dance music?

Up until about ’91 I was blown away by it. ’88 and ’89 were fuckin’ unbelievable years. I gave up playing the guitar and starting messing about with a keyboard and a drum machine because I was so into it. Now it’s gone full circle, there’s no more mew sounds any more. All the chord progressions have been used, all the samples have been used. It’s as boring as fuck now.

Oasis have grown in a very short space of time. From playing The Old Trout in Windsor in May 94 to headlining The Forum four months later. Is it all happening fast enough for you?

I don’t want get too big. I’d love to do Wembley Stadium but where do you go after that? I didn’t think we’d get to this stage here for another two years and in a way it’s fuckin pissed me off. We had all these ideas we were going to be this maverick outcast band from Manchester, being from Manchester everyone fucking hates you anyway. We were going to shove it up them for two years and then we’d spilt up.
Like we know Shakermaker is going to go Top 20 and it’s shit knowing that before it comes out. I’m not going to get excited by that now. It’s sad in a way, once all I wanted was a piece of plastic with some of my songs on it and my name on it. I got that and I thought I don’t feel that special. And I thought I want to get into the charts – and then I got into the charts without really trying and then I thought right Tops of The Pops. It’s really sad , we’ve only had a few records out and I’m bored shitless.

Are you happy with the image of Oasis and the way the press have portrayed you?

Because we’re not part of any scene, the press have to got to offset you against something, that’s the way British journalism works. That can’t just say this is Oasis, take it or leave it. It’s got to be they’re like a cross between the Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses.
When we started the NME hated us, so the MM decided that they were going to love us, so when the NME started loving us, the MM said “Oh, we hate this shit.”
A guy from the NME was with us for three days, I’m not slagging him off, he was dead cool, he got into it and all that but in this interview, he’s got this quote from me saying “Glastonbury’s the only place where you can paint your face like a panda and get away with it because if you did it in a pub round our way someone’d stab you in the throat. He said that to me. I just sat there and said I don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about. When I saw it in print two weeks later and I was supposed to have said it I thought “Why don’t you just interview yourself.” But it’s the game, there’s nothing you can do about it.
At the moment the NME in particular are looking for something that isn’t there. It’s like gossip columns. I was supposed to have beaten up twelve crusties single- handedly in the Camden Underworld one night. But I’m sorry but I wasn’t there. I was in Ireland. But our kid just plays up to it all the time.

What about the image Liam has in the press?

Liam is all mouth and no trousers. He gets all upset about what the press say but I say to him “Look, you’re the one who says you’re going to bottle some journalists, you’re the one who says you like fighting.”
I couldn’t give a flying fuck mate. I don’t care if people throw a bottle at him, as long as it hits him and not me. I’m only interested in music. I’ve got the band to worry about. I do all the meetings and all the interviews. I write all the songs and all the lyrics and when they do a sound check, they just sit there and they’re like four guys from Manchester. What are they going to do themselves? Except get pissed and get into trouble.

Do you feel responsible for them?

I feel responsible for them, but anything else it’s just their tough shit. What I worry about at the moment is that it’s over riding the music, but you’ve got to wait for the press to get bored with it and go a bit deeper.

We decided to close the interview as time was pressing. We left Noel in his hotel room to do another interview, this time with Spiral, a Spanish music magazine.
Brighton’s a great city with a number of cool venues to see a band in – The Zap, The Pavilion. But the venue Oasis were playing tonight was definitely not one of them. Just a square concrete room with a stage at one side of the room and a bar at the other – WHICH SHUT AT 11.
Oasis came onstage at 11. This is why we were here, this why we wanted to do a piece on Oasis. Because put simply they are a Fucking great band. Even with the poor quality PA they sounded good. Oasis are not the most original band around at the moment. But who cares? It’s entertainment that matters.
The crowd was healthily young – obviously too young to be part of the experience of the bands that influence the sound of Oasis. But this is the best sort of crowd – energetic and enthusiastic because they are going out and getting into music for the 1st time.
Oasis end their set with a heavy version of I AM THE WALRUS (John would be proud) and Liam is belting out the GOOO GOOOO G’JOOOObs. Liam for the record is wearing dark glasses and a rather far-out colourful cagool. Noel walks off before the song ends.

Why do you walk off first when you do your last song, I am the walrus?

It’s just that the first couple of times we done it we couldn’t work out an ending, So I’d stand there nodding at them to end it and they’d be looking all dazed, so I just put down me guitar and said see you later Bye. Let them sort out an ending themselves. When we first started doing that song at the end when we’d do small gigs with no dressing room.

Hamilton not able to overtake, never able to make a good start

Al contrario dell'ultima gara, sul circuito canadese Gilles Villeneuve, dove Button ha fatto una gara che neanche Villeneuve (ma i tifosi italiani McLaren di cui parlavo, hanno preferito difendere le buffonate di Hamilton), oggi a Valencia invece è stata noiosissima. Hamilton, oltre che incapace di sorpassare come ampiamente dimostrato, non azzecca mai una partenza, e si è fatto passare dalle due Ferrari, persino da Massa! Oltretutto ha consumato inutilmente le gomme in una parte della gara dove non avrebbe dovuto. Ovviamente una buona partenza dipende anche dalla macchina, ma è proprio la partenza dove un pilota può sopperire all'inferiorità della macchina, e quando uno come lui la sbaglia spesso, c'è qualcosa che non va nel pilota.

Dai ferraristi ne ho sentita un'altra: siccome la Federazione sta cercando di penalizzare la Red Bull con regole per metterli in difficoltà (ma hanno vinto comunque, nonostante fosse l'ultimo circuito favorevole alle caratteristiche Ferrari) e lo fa chiaramente per avvantaggiare la Ferrari, i ferraglisti dicono che lo fa "perchè la Red Bull non è inglese"... ah! come se le macchine inglesi fossero aiutate! Il presidente della FIA, tanto per ricordarlo, è l'ex ferrarista francese Jean Todt, e le McLaren sono spesso e volentieri penalizzate. Tra l'altro, la Red Bull non è inglese eh, è MOLTO inglese: la sede è a Milton Keynes in Inghilterra, e colui che ha progettato questa semi-imbattibile macchina è un certo Adrian Newey, inglese, ex McLaren, praticamente l'unica persona che ha reso la lattina così forte, non mi vengano a dire che Vettel e Webber sono fenomeni. Fanno più o meno gli stessi tempi (grazie alla macchina, è così evidente), Webber è un vecchio pilota che stava per ritirarsi e fino a pochi anni fa guidava macchine da ultime file.
Tra l'altro, cambiare le regole "in corso" durante un campionato, è qualcosa di assurdo, addirittura regole tecniche, per le quali bisognerebbe riprogettare elementi tecnici.

Ringo Starr European tour & Ringo-Liam condition

Noel is in Italy in these days (little honeymoon :), at the seaside too (Liam would say: for retired people, lol), as Ringo Starr when he wrote Octopus's garden.
Ringo is touring with his All Starr Band around Europe, he was in Moskva and Sankt Peterburg more or less in the same days when Beady Eye were there, but he was also also in Kiev, Göteborg, Oslo, Randers (Denmark), Riga, Warszawa and then in the UK. He's going back to East Europe (Budapest and Praha), before coming to Italy, in Milan this Sunday, 3 July.
His nickname Ringo comes from the many rings he used to wear, just like the Gallaghers :).
Ringo co-wrote some songs with the Fab Four but only 2 Beatles songs were "by Ringo Starr" only: Don't pass me by (1968, White Album), which took a lot of time to be finished (as Liam said about his I'm outta time, lol) since 1963 (Liam even more for that one, "9 fucking years", lol), and Octopus's garden (1969, Abbey Road), written in Italy at the seaside when he momentarily left the nervous Beatles at that time. A fisherman told him about how the octopus (as the famous Paul, Italian-born, English resident lol, at the World Cup last year) it goes down the sea looking for sparkling stones and items, to build a "garden".
Oasis used to perform a bit of it live at the end of Whatever, similar chords (video below, you can download Oasis @ Knebworth here), and also All the young dudes - All the young blues carry the news.
The lyrics recall Yellow submarine, written by Lennon/McCartney but sung by Ringo (he also sings With a little help from my friends, among others). Noel Gallagher clearly took the sentence "I'd like to be under the sea" for his b-side Take me away, on the first Oasis single Supersonic.
The meaning of the song for Ringo could be similar to Liam's condition in Oasis (or at least Liam recently described a similar situation), being in a band with someone writing and doing everything, so Ringo-Liam's talents didn't have much space (though Liam had more than Ringo during the first bands periods, Liam was singer and wrote more songs than him). But of course the two personalities are very different.
Also "Don't pass me by" (featuring a bluegrass violin added, sounding as random street music, that he didn't appreciate) has a meaningful title, he wanted to participate more (the first title was "Ringo's tune", then "This is some friendly"). In fact, he then published many albums.
Ringo tunes were quite simple songs, typical for his playful character, and sound as country songs, spaghetti western. So, as I said about Idha Ovelius country music, according to the music research, the conservatives appreciate him, lol.
He was a bit clumsy but funny and a good person, helpful for the nervous situations inside the band.
Liam is also funny and a good person (sometimes clumsy :), don't listen to haters, but he wasn't helpful for the nervous situations inside the band, lol!
They say a man looks clumsy when his value is bigger than the one he shows...
Ringo performed the famous concerts with the Beatles in Italy in 1965, but of course he was in Italy other times, as in 1992 at the Piazza Vittoria in Brescia (not far from Milan) that is the main Italian Beatles-city, they have a big fan club, organize events and all. That was the tour for the Time Takes Time album, he was also in Marina di Pietrasanta at the seaside but cancelled the show in Roma. He was at the Palazzo del Cinema in Venezia in 2005. It's 30 years he's married to the (well, used-to-be beautiful) Barbara Bach.
On 7 July Ringo will celebrate his 71th birthday, it doesn't happen and won't happen so often to see a concert of a legendary Beatle.

MILAN - Not Prince Charles :) but King Charles Ancelotti says yes to Oasisblues. Would you like to meet Carlo Ancelotti? He's in Milan on Monday (as Capello some months ago). The ex Chelsea, Parma, Juventus, Roma, but especially AC Milan player & manager is staying in England this year, to update his managing knowledges, though he's great already, winning with AC Milan 2 (almost 3) Champions Leagues in 4 years only (and other 2 C.L. as AC player), and a Club World Cup (and other 2 as AC player) among other trophies, and won everything in England in his first season there. Rumours say he will be Manchester United manager in the near future, when Ferguson is retiring (probably next year). In comparison to Ferguson, having the Scotsman a much longer career (but won only 2 C.L.), for his number of years on the average Carlo won more trophies. Ancelotti was unlucky with Chelsea in Champions League, he can complain about several big referee mistakes, especially in 2010 vs Inter Milan, both in Milan and London. He recently refused to manage Inter Milan eh eh.. double, triple legend :). Let me know if you wanna come.

Andy Bell deejay sets

NEW YORK CITY - Many fans will already know that Andy, as well as playing guitar for Beady Eye, also enjoys getting behind the decks and doing DJ sets. Recently he performed at Pretty Green's first club night and also created a mix especially for the release of Beady Eye's last single Millionaire.
Andy DJ'd at Pretty Green's party in New York last night (@ Norwood - Marco) and has very kindly let us have his set from the event. 'Eastbound And Down' is now up on the newly-created 'Mixes' page and features tunes from artists including Bob Dylan, Serge Gainsbourg and Elvis.
Also, to mark the release of Beady Eye's third single - The Beat Goes On - Andy has put together two more mixes exclusively for the band's website.
'I'm Coming Up!', the first of the two mixes, will be live on the Mixes page from 11th July, the week before the new single's release (postponed). The collection of tunes is designed to be played loud before a night out and features tracks by Bo Diddley, The Velvet Underground, Beastie Boys and The Rolling Stones.
The second mix, 'Drifting', is more of a chilled, morning after set and features Scott Walker, Ryan Adams, Jimi Hendrix and some classic Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac. This will be live on the Mixes page from 18th July. Andy has told us he's especially pleased with this mix.
More mixes will be added to the page by the band in the coming months. The sets Andy did for the first Pretty Green club night and Millionaire single (Radio Cadaques) are also included on the Mixes page.

GLASTONBURY - Though the Gallaghers and I hate Glastonbury for several reasons explained in old posts (but we don't hate topless girls at the festival :), there might be some fans who go there (of course without Beady Eye). And here's a Manchester City competition to win the new away jersey in the photo (bringing the light :), that was available from today. For an AC Milan fan, it's such a pleasure to the (beady) eyes :). It looks like City wearing a redblack AC kit is now ready to face the Champions League.

Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans has revealed that he has not spoken to Noel Gallagher since he criticised that Oasis' 1997 album.
Evans famously mocked the album on his former Channel 4 TV show TFI Friday shortly after its release by pretending to resuscitate it using a defibrillator.
He revealed Gallagher had not taken kindly to the joke as he appeared alongside friend Zoe Ball on Radio 2's 2DAY.
“When Be Here Now came out we were all so disappointed with the album we opened up a TFI Friday with a defibrillator trying to resuscitate it and give the album some life – he saw the joke and has never spoken to me since.”
Evans told Ball that Gallagher had since “admitted it was a terrible album”, but said he had given up hopes of being forgiven.
“No never gonna happen, doesn’t matter,” he said, before adding that he was now in the camp of Gallagher's former Oasis bandmate and brother, Liam.

Be Here Now was not an album without life... on the contrary, the cd had the opposite problem: too crazy, colourful, commercial, it was recorded when Oasis were under the effect of drugs and the songs might sound strange, distorted, etc. but they don't need life...

Italian musician saves people from Irish Ryanair plane

SEVILLA - Automatic translation: Two hours in the sun. At 50°Celsius degrees [in Sevilla it's really 50, and no seaside there], no water, with the air conditioning broken and bated breath, in search of oxygen. Claustrophobia, panic attacks, fainting. It may seem like a horror movie, but this time it's the reality as experienced by passengers on the Ryanair flight FR9342 Sevilla-Pisa, trapped at the Spanish airport inside an aircraft in distress.
On June 16, the departure is scheduled for 12.50, but the situation falls. They're in despair when, as in all the bad stories destined to end well, here's the hero, Marco Pezzola, a musician from Arezzo, who wanted to save his wife in the throes of an asthma attack.
He throws himself on the front door of the aircraft and forces it, activating the emergency chute. For the passengers it's freedom, all rush on the runway. But many are in poor condition. They must call the ambulance, and that part of the airport becomes a first-aid field. Among the unfortunate there is also a baby of 11 months, also in need of care.
An extreme situation that has attracted the attention of Facua, the largest association of Spanish consumers and the Aesa, the state agency for aviation security: they have launched an investigation, the airline is accused of having endangered the health of travelers.
Ryanair apologizes, but Pezzola refused and said to the National Newspaper: "I'm gonna report Ryanair to sue all the damages."

Japanese interview to Alan: I'll see a Beady Eye gig

TOKYO - No Alan McGee, no Oasis. How you respond to this simple equation is entirely down to you. But no Jesus and Mary Chain, no Primal Scream – you start to realise we're talking about a man who howled with nascent indie in its cradle, was present at its birth, and probably severed its umbilical chord with his gnashing teeth.
As the founder of Creation Records, a madly run British label that artists queued up to be a part of, McGee had a Svengali influence on youth culture in the decade preceding (and including) Britpop. He'll probably be longest remembered as the man who signed the Gallagher brothers, though his drug-induced breakdown in the mid-'90s ensured that he watched much of their success from the sidelines.
In 2010, director Danny O'Connor released the documentary Upside Down: The Creation Records Story, which will receive its Japan debut at Summer Sonic, alongside a McGee DJ set at Sonicmania. Ahead of it all, we took the chance to tackle the man himself, carefully navigating our way through his famously impenetrable Glaswegian accent.

You're bringing Upside Down to Japan for the first time this August. Did this country play much of a part in the Alan McGee story?

Well, I met Michael Jackson for the first time in Japan at the Tokyo Dome. I had just done the Sony deal for Creation. He didn't understand a thing I said.

The words 'maniac' and 'insane' crop up a lot in the documentary – not the kind of words you might associate with a successful business. Did anyone really know what they were doing at Creation Records, or were you all winging it?

I always knew a great song when I heard one. Business-wise, we were making it up as we went along. We had no real experience, so we just tried to do our best by the bands.

How did Upside Down come about? Did it surprise you that someone wanted to make it?

Danny asked me to do it in 2004, but I said no. Then, in 2005, I said yes, and 5 years later he finished it. I like it a lot. That's the best compliment I can give it as I find things I do, looking back, always flawed.

The Creation Records of the early '80s and that of the mid-'90s look like vastly different places, one with a keen urgency and the latter a kind of bloated Elvis version. At what point were you happiest with it?

The early years were more fun, but in the later years we made a lot of money. I liked them both.

What was your daily drug intake at the time of your breakdown?

Who knows. I actually don't remember 1993, apart from signing Oasis. It happens to people. You get success and you go mad. I am just me. Shit happens.

How do you go about coming off drugs when you're hanging around with members of Oasis?

Oasis were cool about me getting clean. It was harder with me and The Primals, as I grew up with them. When I came back clean, it must have been strange for them. They are all sober now, so it's all good between us.

What was the most profound thing Liam Gallagher ever said to you?

He said once to me, 'We are Oasis and you are Creation, so it's all meant to be'. When I thought about it, I took it as being very wise. Everything is written.

Will you be stopping by to see Beady Eye at Summer Sonic?

Yeah! I love them. People are down on Liam and the band, but it's a really good album so I will go and see them.

You've said that you were responsible for looking after Mick Hucknall when you went to 10 Downing Street. Is Mick Hucknall a liability? Is he not to be trusted in a seat of power?

He's an idiot. I actually think he is a good singer, but as a bloke he's a total cretin.

Can you imagine starting a Creation Records in 2011? Does the modern music industry even have a place for an Alan McGee character?

I don't think it does. I think I am too genuinely weird for the music business. Maybe I always was, but at 50 I know I am too weird for the modern day music business.

How the hell is anybody supposed to make money off music these days?

I think unless you play big shows like The Primals, I can't see how you will make money off CDs.

In hindsight, which band do you think you were most wrong about?

I have no regrets about anything. Life is about going forwards, not looking backwards.

Can you tell us a wild Creation story that didn't make it into the documentary?

To be honest, there are millions, but some of them would get me killed. So, sorry, but on that question... pass.

You've only got 10 minutes left at the decks before the world ends. What do you play?

It would be The Beatles and it would be 'Hey Jude' or 'Across the Universe'. I really love The Beatles. Always will, I think.

Pretty Green, after winning the Drapers Award as Menswear Brand of the year 2010, is on the shortlist for Best Breakthrough Brand in the Global Fashion Awards.
More than 200 of the world’s fashion elite gathered at St Martins Lane Hotel in London for the official WGSN Global Fashion Awards Shortlist party, where the highly-anticipated 2011 award candidates were made public.
The winners will be announced on October 20, 2011 at a gala event at New York’s prestigious Gotham Hall.

Liam Gallagher had better not ask Mumford & Sons for a spot on the guest list soon. The Beady Eye frontman has hammered the folk band for the way they dress.He said: "They look like fucking Amish people. You know, them ones with the big sideys that don't use electricity?
Growing their own food and putting barns up... I need music to be a bit more sexy and played by people who look a bit fucking dangerous."
He also had a dig at newlywed brother Noel, saying: "Our kid looks more like Louis Walsh these days."
Talking clobber again, he told Shortlist magazine, out today, that he owns more shoes than missus Nicole Appleton.
Liam added: "I've always had more shoes than her, I like my shoes. I just have to go through it every now and again and think, 'D'you know what? I'll give that to charity.' That makes me feel good."
Sounds like he's after Gok Wan's job.

Kakà looks back to Milan for free. But comebacks are not so good

MILAN - I don't know if we should be really happy, 'cause we already had the experience with the legendary Shevchenko coming back and failing (but at least it was a good deal for the money). Comebacks are not so good as one expects...
If one day Oasis renuited, it would be something big and all, but then I don't think the performances would be so great. You know, getting old, not used to play (and stay) together anymore, etc.
Kakà was supposed to have a whole AC Milan future, even as politician, rumours said. But that summer when Oasis split, he left.
Anyway, this summer there will be fans welcoming him: as I announced some months ago, Ricardo Kakà is coming back to play for AC Milan, and it will be probably from August.
Milan won't pay anything for the transfer, Real will do it to make him happy and they're even gonna pay half of his wages: of course they won't explain these details 'cause it's a bad impression for them.
Kakà also refused to join Paris Saint Germain.
As Zlatan Ibrahimovic, both of them went to Spain, Madrid and Barcelona, but didn't feel good there (and Kakà is not getting on well with Mourinho). Not London but Milan calling, last year Ibra joined AC and won the league.
On his Twitter account Kakà said: "forza Milan" and was happy for the league won even if he was a Madrid player, he's still in love with Milan.
This video was in 2009 when Kakà refused to join Manchester City, it wasn't a great team yet and Milan could get more money from City but he preferred Madrid. Then he didn't do anything special there and was often injured, so it was a good deal for Milan.

Liam in friendly territory, dedicating to all the beautiful ladies of Toronto

TORONTO - British rocker Liam Gallagher was clearly in friendly territory on Monday night at Sound Academy before his post-Oasis band Beady Eye took the stage for their much anticipated Toronto debut.
First of all, Gallagher’s married to Hamilton, Ont.’s Nicole Appleton, and they have a son together.
So maybe it was family, and not a group of fans on a small balcony overlooking the packed floor below, that dangled a large Union Jack flag minutes before Gallagher appeared on stage.
Whatever the case, about 10 minutes later, Gallagher came out decked in his own neck-to-knees stylish Union Jack jacket with a questionable pageboy haircut but still looking every inch the rock star. The chants of “Liam! Liam!” started up shortly afterwards.
Swagger fully intact and in great, big voice, with his arms behind his back in his trademark stance, Gallagher then let it rip for the next hour and 10 minutes.
With only one Beady Eye album, Different Gear, Still Speeding, to play from, the occasional B-side (Two of A Kind), bonus track (Man Of Misery) and cover (World Of Twist’s Sons of The Stage) was thrown into the mix too.
Gallagher, aided by guitarists Gem Archer and Andy Bell and drummer Chris Sharrock (essentially four-fifths of Oasis), plus touring bassist Jeff Wootton and keyboardist Matt Jones, had the audience riveted to his every move, whether he was rolling up a towel in one fist like he was getting ready to deliver a punch, or just prowling the stage checking fans out.
And even if the Beady Eye songs aren’t uniformly great - the album is a hit and miss affair - you’ve got to give Liam credit for being the first Gallagher out of the gate with music.
While he is touring North America with Beady Eye for the first time, his older brother Noel - who left Oasis after one final furious fight with his sibling before a 2009 Paris concert - just got married for the second time this past weekend overseas (an event to which Liam wasn’t invited) and has yet to release his first post-Oasis solo album.
This isn’t meant to pit one brother against the other, only to say that after you’ve been in a super successful Britpop band like Oasis for 15 years, it’s not easy to emerge from that shadow.
And given Noel was always thought of as the band’s brain trust as the guitarist and main songwriter, it’s surprising that Liam’s the one first up to bat.
Of the Beady Eye songs, charging rockers like Four Letter Word and Beatles and Stones worked best, opening the evening one after the other, but middling numbers like Millionaire, Two Of a Kind, For Anyone, Wind up Dream, Morning Son, and Wigwam, dragged the proceedings down.
They also had one good ballad, Kill For a Dream, but the other standouts were of the mid-tempo to rocking variety like The Roller, the set highlight Bring The Light with black and white film of go-go girls played in the background while Gallagher dedicated the song to “all the beautiful ladies of Toronto,” Standing On The Edge Of the Noise, and Three Ring Circus.
Sadly, Gallagher has decided any Oasis material is a no-go zone in his current live show and one couldn’t help wonder how much better Monday night’s show might have been had he thrown in the odd Oasis song, even if it was just the ones he, and not Noel, had written.
No one can deny the musical past, especially when it’s one as rich as that of Oasis.

summer jobs for girls: teacher, model, journalist

MILAN - "Step outside, the summertime's in bloom"... Oasis used to sing. Today is summer.
Here are some activities to do also "open air", with a computer while sunbathing.
In the recent years I've been writing posts everyday, even summer days, to give something to read especially to the email readers, only a very few days had no posts, 'cause in the summer it's quite difficult to find news or something to write about. With oasisblues I understood why we read so many bullshit on tabloids, lol.
Sometimes it's not bad to take something from the past, some memory, some old concert, etc.
You know many of the posts are not written by me (you can recognize them 'cause they're written in perfect English language, lol... mine is simple), but they're sent to my email from my contacts, they find them around (usually there's a link down on the column, but they're always more or less the same sites) or they write them, sometimes I used to put the name of the girl writing them (but sometimes they don't want because of privacy). In exchange usually I give them things, tickets, clothes, free holidays, etc., it's always something done "in friendship".
This site is not really making money, it's just a fansite saying honest things as the Gallaghers do (and so they're often "uncomfortable"), mainly useful to have contacts, there are some expenses to pay, site name, travelling for concerts, etc., there's Google ads helping just a bit. The important thing is always to give free stuff to the people, every fan does something for other fans, it can be photos, videos, bootlegs, competitions, etc.
It would be good to have a whole editorial staff, so we can start: I need a secretary :)
Recently I'm not searching for other models, 'cause I have enough around, but it's always good to promote new ones.
In some time the Pretty Green womenswear will be launched, so it would be good to find new faces. I think not models but just "pretty girls" :) will be ok.
But I always need teachers :), of English and other languages, that's why I can speak 7, lol.
About Beady Eye there are no Italian gigs left (quite strange), but as you know they always come to Milan for some holidays (Liam Gallagher is in love with Gorgonzola cheese lol, that one stinking :) but very good), so if you're around here this summer there'll be some chance to meet them. Beady Eye always go to Como lake near Milan (the place of the Italian biggest love story - "The betrothed", where the crown of Miss Padania comes from - story with happy ending, while Romeo & Juliet by Shakespeare was big and in Italy, Verona, but with sad ending).
The Smashing Pumpkins from Milan sister city Chicago would say: "and the embers never fade, in my city by the lake, the place where I was born" :)
It's the place where George Clooney's got a house with his Italian girlfriend, Elisabetta Canalis.
Many players live in this nice place, also because it's close to Milan and Inter training centres, Milanello and Appiano. My first girlfriend was from this zone :), quite similar to Liam's wife :)
Beady Eye also go to some clubs and radios, some time ago I was working for one of those radios in Milan.

He then wrote the name on the side of a cigarette packet while drunk. When he awoke in the morning, he realised he had written "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants", not "shoulders"

Maybe knowing him Lennon was an idiot, I wouldn't got on well with him and would have hated him. People speak too much of his life, pacifism, and so on, I'm interested only in his songs.

For going around we were still using a tour bus, and as it was our first time there, we had a big surprise when a bus full of British people overtook us, all of them smiling and waving their hands but suddenly they turned and showed us their arses ahahaha

At a 1997 gig after the first chord of 'Be here now' I was literally flying, gone fuckin' mad fer it, continuously shouting and jumping embraced with all the people. Best fun of my life.
