Noel, Marco and National Anthems

England flag, the Christian cross, that is also Milan flag and the flag used by Lega Nord, a very popular and very conservative and independentist political party from North Italy.

In these days we're gonna hear national hymns more often than usual.
Not only for the usual sporting events, as Formula 1 every 2-3 weeks, but of course now with the World Cup for a month we could even listen to 6 anthems a day.
We were waiting for a Wold Cup anthem written by Noel, but it seems he didn't write it. He recently said that all football songs for the World Cup are shite, so he could finally write one...
Ok, next time.
I don't remember what Noel thinks about God save the Queen, England national anthem, but probably he doesn't like it so much, as he doesn't like so much the Queen :)
Anyway, looking at him, he often wore national flags, even has a famous guitar made with the colours of the national flag, etc., and he's surely very proud of his country.
There's a part of the English anthem (I would define it "solemn", the year was 1745) which I like very much:

O Lord, our God, arise,
scatter her enemies,
and make them fall.
Confound their politics,
frustrate their knavish tricks,
on thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all.

I really feel impressed when I hear an anthem, of any country (apart from france anthem :), sometimes I'm even moved, it feels like crying, 'cause I feel much the nationality. Of course this always happens when I hear the English anthem, even more than my own country's, and here I explain why. I'm very proud of my own country, but proud of concrete facts, and they could be the nice places, the arts, the food, the football, etc. etc., not as the french, who are proud of their country just for the idea of "nation", Schopenhauer said that the french are idiots for this.

Every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud, adopts as a last resource pride in the nation to which he belongs; he is ready and happy to defend all its faults and follies tooth and nail, thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.
The world has the monkeys, Europe has the french. It's balanced. I call the disapproval of all Europe to humiliate these shamless liars.
(Arthur Schopenhauer)

I'm proud of Italy, but anyway there's something to tell about our anthem, Inno di Mameli (an song which sounds "joyful" and giving courage, the year was 1847), titled "Fratelli d'Italia" (=Italy's brothers).
The other day there was Switzerland-Italy and now on our press there's a controversy, they're discussing about a player, Marchisio, who maybe changed some words while singing it, when it says "..che è schiava di Roma" (=Italy is slave of Rome (?!) ), so this player, being from the North of Italy, sang "che è schiava di Roma ladrona" (=Italy is slave of big thief Rome...). "Roma ladrona" is to say how much money goes to Rome city (where is the Italian parliament), while if there wasn't Milan and the North, Italy would be a very poor country, very close to Africa.
It's a common way of speaking, an expression used by a very conservative and independentist political party called Lega Nord, very aggressive as Oasis :) and very popular in the North, as Oasis in England :), but not racist as people say, as many black people support the party, and one of the main ideas used to be the independence from Centre-South Italy. They often have so good political ideas that even some people from Centre-South like this party.
Maybe Italy was slave of Rome 160 years ago, when there wasn't even an Italian nation...
So some words seem to have no sense nowadays. I mean, we're fucking slaves of fucking anyone.
Anyway it's the anthem of my country, and I feel it very much, following the music and forgetting some words :)
So, Lega Nord party and North Italy in general, adopted another anthem, that is the very famous "Va pensiero (sull'ali dorate)" (Go, thought, on golden wings), from the Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi, of course he was from the North.
They put it last Saturday at Miss Padania, North beauty contest:
