Alan: everybody wanted to be Liam

LONDON - Here are the reasons why Oasis became very successful.
Saying "because they had good songs" is naive, only fankids could say so. In fact, many people who are no Oasis fans, think the songs were not good. Many bands have good songs but can't become famous, and sure not as huge as Oasis were, not even if they had better songs than Oasis' (this says a lot about the real reasons), and because Oasis were something else.
I have the right to say two or three things because I was there in those years and know perfectly how it worked.
The first years, the mere attraction of girls for the singer is fundamental, and it's the same for everybody, not only Backstreet Boys and similar boybands. If they like the frontman, half of the audience is yours, but the other half too, 'cause then, many boys want to be like the idol adored by girls.
Sure nobody wanted to be Noel, as he was ugly as fuck. Noel used Liam.
It's something the new fankids can't understand, 'cause they didn't live those times. They're no Oasis fans. They just judge things by what they heard from other people. Now girls say Noel is not ugly, but at those times he was.
As Noel admitted a night when he was drunk : his masterplan, as he called it (this is the real meaning of the song, nothing godlike as his blinded fans think) was to reach success through the media, instead of the songs. That means through the "fights" with his brother (they never really had a physical fight, despite what people say) and so they were often on the tabloids, specialized in telling bullshit and stories.
Someone says you have to belong to the illuminati to have an instant success, that Oasis had.
We fans seemed "hypnotized" (as today Noel's fans are) by everything Oasis said and did, and wanted be "like them" in everything. It was something beyond music: it was also about attitude, clothes, football, everything.
Believe conspiracy or not, anyway Oasis became part of a system where everything they did, it was something to talk about. At a certain point, if they had shitty songs, it would have been the same.
Noel taking songs from the Real People or from other musicians, it didn't matter. It wasn't really about the songs as it seems.
Oasis was the band formed by Liam, the best voice of the 90s. All the people saying (like: everyday) that Liam would have been nobody without Noel, it's nonsense.
It's the opposite.

Thanks to Oasis, Creation Records was then firing on all cylinders. Oasis "president" Alan: “There was a point where Oasis were so big that anything with their name on it would sell millions. We had become the mainstream, Oasis were everywhere. It got to the point where everybody began to look like Liam Gallagher. I used to talk to people and tell them things because I thought they were Liam.”
McGee did enjoy some of the trappings of success, especially at the expense of his new partners at Sony Music. “Sony hated me because I was horrible and took the piss all the time. Because of Oasis, we had so much power over them that I could take their helicopter. I used to fly by helicopter to Dublin quite a lot to have lunch. I was having a laugh.”
