The Stone Roses finally made a triumphant homecoming on the 1st night of their Manchester Heaton Park weekender (June 29).
After a run of European warm-ups, 75,000 revellers of all ages turned up for music's most anticipated show of the year, as one of the city's most legendary bands played their first major UK show in 16 years.
Just after 9pm, the intro track of The Supremes' 'Stoned Love' faded out and what the world was waiting for took place; Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani and Reni walked onstage and powered into their 1989 classic I Wanna Be Adored'.
Following quickly with Mersey Paradise, Sugar Spun Sister and Where Angels Play, Brown quipped, "As you can see, we've still got it." He sported a black biker jacket, while guitarist Squire sported a tartan jacket. Mani wore paisley (Pretty Green), while Reni repeated the dreadlock wig, which many have speculated is a nod to his 90s replacement Robbie Maddix. Mani played a selection of basses, with a psychedelic pink and yellow model replaced by the red, yellow and green colours of Rastafarianism, in a nod to support act The Wailers.
Love Spreads saw Brown strip down to a black patterned T-shirt and Reni don his trademark cap, on top of the dreadlock wig. And as the song ended, King Monkey jammed the track out into a rap, celebrating the band's return and demanding applause.
Before This Is The One, a proud Brown asked the crowd, "Who's from Manchester?" As they careered into their final run of A-list hits, he exclaimed, "Looking out, I can see we still got the best looking girls!" (are you sure? lol)
But as the show approached its climax, the gloves came off. The singer made a barbed comment on the recent Diamond Jubilee celebrations before Elizabeth My Dear. He said, "This song's dedicated to those parasites down the road… celebrating 60 years of tyranny!"
They went on finish with a heroic rendition of I Am The Resurrection, extended into its traditional wig-out epilogue. The bandmembers then hugged, stood in solidarity at the front of the stage, and then departed jubilant, with a stubborn lack of encore.
As the crowd dispersed, a spectacular firework display went off, to the strains of Redemption Song, one of the few Bob Marley classics The Wailers did not play earlier on.

Earlier on, Mani was able to look upon his previous band Primal Scream, who are playing their first dates with their replacement bass player Debbie Googe. They also treated fans to epic, and also timely, new track '2012'.
Before that, The Wailers performed Bob Marley classics Three Little Birds, No Woman No Cry and One Love, the only band to support on all three nights, at the personal request of Ian Brown.
Formed in Manchester in 1983, The Stone Roses were the heroes of the baggy era. They made history with their 1989 debut, widely considered to be one of the greatest of all time. But it took them until 1994 to release its follow-up Second Coming, and they eventually dissolved in 1996. After years of insisting they would never do it, they finally announced their reunion in October last year. They made a surprise live comeback at Warrington's Parr Hall last month.

With around 250,000 people set to descend on Heaton Park this weekend for the return of seminal Manchester band The Stone Roses, we thought we would share this fantastic poem by drummer (and huge City fan) Alan 'Reni' Wren.
The Roses' hugely anticipated resurrection, following splitting up in 1996 has been the talk of the music industry over the past few months, and the three hometown shows starting last night are set to put Manchester at the centre of the cultural map once again.
Enigmatic drummer Reni is famously quoted as saying that the only time the band would ever reunite would be "when City win the European Cup", although we would like to think that last season's dramatic Premier League finale had a big part to play in the lads getting back onstage again!
'Enter The Arena' captures Reni's experience of being a ball boy at Maine Road - invoking the spirit of the Kippax and the magic of the Blues. It was first displayed as part of a Manchester music exhibition held at the old club museum back in 2006.

ignorant German racists

WARSAW - Nice racist comments on German newspapers (Bild) before Germany-Italy, and their tv (Ard, their national tv) during the game. Says a lot about their inferiority complexes and fear (just another country of the list). You remember some time ago there was even a mad German man who killed because of their inferiority towards Italy.
On the newspapers the usual stereotypes from ignorant people... old mentality (meanwhile, we are in 2012). On tv, while losing 0-2, Reinhold Beckmann (journalist) e Mehmet Scholl (ex Bayern Munich) called "stray dogs" Balotelli and Cassano, and even "not self-sufficient". They clearly don't know that all the greatest players learnt to play in the streets, football is the only thing they had in their childhood. In fact, many great players come from the poor "favelas" in Brazil, in difficult, violent places (like "Bronx") in Argentina, similar background in the childhood for the two Italian talents. They don't know Mario's history: health problems, abandoned by the parents, adopted, etc. Would really like to see them, if they weren't a bit mad. Scholl then apologized.
I can play football very well and I learnt in the street (my old post about cement), we were even fighting. You remember also my old post about "living football", instead of "going to football".
The same about music and Oasis: when you have a difficult background (people fighting, no money, violent father, etc.), you can only do something much better.
You can recognise a man is a German from the belly (beer & shite food), getting red 'cause they don't have sun, and the sandals and white socks while he's having sex, lol. No style at all. Oh and that they always lose vs Italy.
In Switzerland they heard them on tv and asked to sack them, telling to do the same Germany did: pack your bags and go home.
It's time for holidays for them now, usually they always go to Italy, where they can have a shower for the first time during the year, them dirty dogs.

"Germany will destroy Italy" LOL Beady Eye playing Oasis+new song


WARSAW - Everybody saying we were going to lose, Noel Gallagher's friend included (the one of "England already won vs Italy before playing"... then they were rubbish). Breaking news: 2 goals by Mario Balotelli, Italy easily 0-2, could have been even 3 or 4 vs the strongest team of Euro 2012. Final on Sunday: Spain-Italy. Well we are the only ones who scored a goal to Spain. Still congrats to french Platini for giving more days to relax to Italy's opponents. 
Germany with 2 days more than us (like playing 12 vs 11), plus extra energies wasted vs England, and 15,000 "ze Germanz" vs 2,500 Italians, like playing 13 vs 11. But all the times we won Germany was always strong, in 2006 they were even playing at home.
We were singing to ze Germanz: "non vincete mai" (you never win, lol) and "Balo tutta la notte con le mignotte" (Balo all the night with bitches, lol) and following the Queen, now also "anche la Merkel a pecorina" (Merkel too in doggy style, lol).
Here's the setlist: as I had predicted, not @ Fuji but in Warrington, Beady Eye played Oasis songs: Rock'n'roll star and Morning Glory, plus a new song: World's not set in stone (that Liam had dedicated to the La's Lee Mavers). (Wil)Liam: great voice.
Warsaw + Warrington: we won.
It was the warm up for Saturday @ Heaton Park in Manchester, supporting the Stone Roses.

Pirlo’s impudence put so much pressure on Ashley Young that he promptly fired against the bar — and Cesare Prandelli’s men went on to win the spot-kick contest 4-2, Buffon also saved Ashely Cole's penalty.
Pirlo said: “I saw England’s keeper Joe Hart making strange movements and decided to take my kick that way. Hart was fired up and he had been diving around, so it was easier to take it like that. Scoring the way I did put pressure on to Young, and that is what made him miss his kick. I did not fear being ridiculed by the English. They just wanted to play for penalties and we deserved to beat them. We knew we have dominated them and we could have played better. We certainly ought to have won the game earlier on, as that would have saved some of our energy for the semi-final. England are a good team but we prepared ourselves very well for them. KIEV - Breaking news. 
Before the game, Noel Gallagher the jinx: "England will win on penalties".
In the real world, Italy dominating and obviously deserving (also hitting 2 posts), and England going home. Nothing new.
Pirlo made a joke of "the best goalkeeper in the world", Manchester City's Joe Hart, with the "cucchiaio" (spoon) penalty.
Italy played the double of the game, double ball possession (64%-36%), more than double passes (820 vs 340), etc. 35 shots vs 9...amazing.
Italia sprecona ma che li ha presi a pallate...
Balotelli wasted chances and the people got angry but he was always keeping busy their defence.
In the pub the Italian fans were singing "la Regina a pecorina" LOL (the Queen in doggy style :)
As I had predicted, England played defensive... I don't wanna hear any more English people saying Italy plays defensive, Noel Gallagher included, the other day, saying that we invented that style. Yes but it wasn't enough for lucky England (bye bye Kamara...), playing with barricades, the "catenaccio". If it was Italy playing that way, we would have been criticised by English tabloids for years.
And as I had predicted, it was an extremely correct, clean game, never seen one like this. Nothing bad happened between anyone.
The only regret is that they could have won in the 90 minutes without extra efforts. Now 4 days to Germany-Italy, Germany with 6 days to rest, Italy only 4, congrats Platini. Also the referee will be french...
It's an "impossible" game, but historically Germany always loses vs Italy (3-4 in 1970, 1-3 in 1982, 0-2 in 2006). This time @ Euro 2012 they're too strong, at least England is avoiding them.
Great day for Italy, also winning with Ferrari the Europe GP: an amazing race, Alonso from 11th to first position.

Italy and England already won

KIEV - Already won the prize for the fair play between them... great respect, exchanging compliments, no controversies, no insults, I know it sounds boring and people don't want this, but that's how it should be in sports, especially when it's one month to the Olympic Games in England.
Noel Gallagher should learn how to behave from them.
Contrary to all the other countries in previous games, I'm pretty sure there won't be booing, fighting, throwing stuff (at cows), unless Noel goes to stadium. He's not going 'cause he plays a gig in England. 
So, today's the day (that all the world will see), Italia-Inghilterra. Some excitement is going away thinking that in the semifinal it's Germany playing vs the winner of this game. The one who made the calendar must be an idiot: Germany is having 6 days between quarter and semifinal, the winner of England-Italy only 4.
It must be the Uefa president: the french Platini... oh the president is french and Euro 2016 will not be in Italy, it could only be in france... boycott.
Of course if England wins today, I would support them vs Germany.
The referee for tonight is Portuguese: he might be influenced by the fact that Ukraine didn't have a ghost goal vs England.
I think England will play a solid game but quite slow, trying to control the game keeping a draw. Noel said England should improve tenfold to win.
If Italy wants to win, even easily, they should be quick as they usually are. Typical of Italy is playing great games vs great teams and struggling vs weak teams. It remains to see if this England is really great or not. Italy was the only was scoring and drawing vs World-Europe champions of Spain, but didn't play very well vs Ireland, even if they won.
When I said I wanted this game (the last one in an official competition was 22 years ago, so it's a big event), I wrote that I want England to win, 'cause Italy already won too many times. But I think Italy is going to win again. If it's England, I'll be happy anyway.

About yesterday's post about Noel first wishing to enjoy the rain to the fans and then getting sick: 
he should take his own advice from the Coachella interview. Noel's quote: "I get tired of rock stars who bitch, and complain, and moan about everything. This is the greatest game in the world and should be treated as such. It should look exciting and fun and if you don't like it, then get out. There are kids all over the world with acoustic guitars sitting in bars playing other people's songs and they are dreaming about being tired on an airplane."
Or dreaming about getting evacuated from a hotel at 6am and having a fan approach you for a quick picture.

Sunday: Italy vs England

KIEV - so it's "Inghilterra-Italia" on Sunday... As I had predicted some time ago, I wanted this match, 'cause it's very rare, there should be more. But now that it's here, it's not so good 'cause these games @ Euro 2012 are nice to see but they're causing a lot of tensions between the people of different countries, whatever happens.
Let's hope that all the idiots have gone, booing, fighting, throwing stuff (at cows, as Noel Gallagher), etc.
But usually it's tabloids provoking, and those are difficult to be eliminated. For example, someone please tell the ridiculous Spanish newspapers for people sunbathing on the beach, that with their 0-0 vs Croatia (until the end, and won only thanks to a goal in offside and 2 penalties not given to Croatia, typical help to Spain), Italy would have qualified anyway, and it was even first, so we don't have to return any favour to anyone. And again with the story of Tassotti vs Luis Enrique, there's no problem between them, it was almost 20 years ago and recently shook their hands.
Last night, Ukraine-England 0-1 but there was a ghost goal for Ukraine, not given. At least it compensates for the one by Lampard @ South Africa 2010 World Cup against Germany. Now it's clear that the new referee for the goal line, is useless... idiotic Blatter and Platini don't understand that technology is necessary. UPDATE: Blatter hates both Italy and England, and oh now that it wasn't given a goal against England, he said technology is no longer an alternative but a necessity.
England would have qualified anyway, but who knows, Ukraine playing at home could have tried everything if it was 1-1.
Fantastic goal by AC Milan Ibrahimovic (best goal so far), Sweden beating France 2-0, even if useless. Spain vs France, the French have no hope.
The game played by England is ugly to watch but they're quite concrete, while the main problem for Italy is to make it 2-0 quicker, closing the match. Italy has one day more to relax, but England has the advantage that they've just played 2 games @ Kiev stadium already. Italy wasn't even in Ukraine, they were playing in Poland.
Anyway, there's not much to be happy to win this quarter final England-Italy, 'cause in the semifinal the winner will surely get Germany, and both Italy and England are inferior this year, even if Germany almost always loses vs Italy, but almost always wins vs England.

There are only 2 main England-Italy I remember in my life, 22 years ago the last one in a competition, 1990, and 1997, qualifiers for the World Cup
(but there's also a famous Wembley 1973 England-Italy 0-1, goal by Capello (beating England 2 times with his goals), and 1980 England-Italy 0-1 Marco Tardelli goal)
The last friendly was 10 years ago in 2002 in Leeds, England-Italy 0-2, Montella 2 goals.

Noel's Irish shepherds booing Balotelli, Ireland-Italy 0-2

POZNAN - Noel Gallagher's Ireland fans premature ejaculators just like Noel's fans, doing the Poznan without scoring, after a few minutes: goal by AC Milan Cassano, who had a heart operation a few months ago, 175 cm tall, scored with his head among tall players.

Pretty Green in Tokyo

LONDON - Liam always proving to be elected one of the Most Working Artists, a few months ago. Noel still one of the laziest, three real new songs every 3 years - and not all written by him, as his imaginary friend Gem said.
To celebrate the British Fashion Council's London Collections, Shortlist Magazine has designed three limited editions covers to front their style specials. Knowing a man who is clear of his sartorial choices, Liam Gallagher was naturally asked to submit his own design.
Shortlist Magazine recently caught up with Liam to talk through the ideas behind his psychedelic cover, the meaning of British style and what's next for Pretty Green.

So what is the idea behind your cover?

L: "The cover was inspired by the psychedelic portraits of The Beatles taken by Richard Avedon in the late 60's, which I’ve got hanging in my house. I wanted to create something that had the same vibe and also used the paisley logo that we created for Pretty Green."

How did you go about putting it together?

L: "I worked on it with the graphic design team at PG and this one jumped out the minute we did it."

What does British style mean to you?

L: "British style for me is a look back over the decades especially in the 60’s where lads were buzzin and defining their style and where bands like the stones and the Who were creating their own classic look. Take album covers from the Kinks to The Small Faces they all had a clean smart British look that made a statement. It’s all about iconic classic pieces like the Parka or the Trench which epitomise British style. I try to capture a bit of that in what I do with Pretty Green. Fashion and music will always go hand in hand and that has a major bearing on the Pretty Green designs."

What are your personal style rules?

L: "It’s about the look and whether I personally like it or not. I’m into quality clothing with a vintage vibe. Pretty Green is a reflection of my personal style and taste, one foot in the past one foot in the future."

What is your worst fashion mistake you’ve made?

L: "Its not for me to point out, I’m sure there’s been a few mistakes but overall I’m cool as fuck!"

Who is your all time style hero?

L: "There’s several – Stone Roses, George Harrison / Brian Jones / Steve McQueen."

Who gives British style a bad name??

L: "Anyone who wears what they are told to wear and not what they want to wear, you know the ones who have stylists, if you don’t know what you look good in then I feel sorry for you."

Give us a guide to looking good on-stage? What are the essentials?

L: "For me it starts with the shoes and then work your way up."

What next for Pretty Green??

L: "We are opening a new store next week in Leeds which will be our 11th in the UK, and then our first international store in Tokyo which opens at the end of July just before the mighty Beady Eye play Fuji Rocks, it gunna be mega we are having a big party on the Wednesday if you're in town and you’re not a clown then you’re invited!"

Pretty Green in Leeds: win clothes +Andy new mix

LEEDS - Rock star and fashion designer Liam Gallagher is opening another branch of his clothing store Pretty Green.
The shop, in popular King Edward Street – part of the Victoria Quarter development – will open on Friday 15 June.
It is the 11th store in the former Oasis frontman’s portfolio.
As well as stocking a full range of clothing and accessories – including its Black label – the store will also act as a music venue for up and coming bands.
Nigel Grant, brand director at Pretty Green, told the Yorkshire Evening Post: ‘Wherever we see a demand for the brand we will act accordingly. Our online offer is extensive and successful but stores allow customers to get up close to us. The label has always been about an experience and stores allow us to give our customers exactly that.’
The label with its rock and roll inspired flavour continues to evolve and sees further growth for the future.

'I put this mixtape together for my own entertainment towards the end of the last tour. It got a few plays backstage after gigs on the last UK dates... then I passed it on to Pretty Green when they asked me for some music to use this Spring in their stores and online. DJ Shadow and Stereolab tunes feature heavily as I was listening to them a lot at the time.... One of the DJ Shadow tracks is a really short segment of a much longer live mix CD called Brainfreeze, which I picked up in Melbourne a few years ago - in other words, that's not me scratching it's DJ Shadow haha... get hold of the CD if you can, it's cool. The first track..is an old Krautrock tune, the vocals may not be to everyones taste, she kind of sounds like Grace Slick meets Johnny Rotten.. No apologies.. to the taste police, who will be after me for including Joan Armatrading... she's a great acoustic guitarist and I dug that CD out after 20 years since I last heard it... great Italy vs Spain kings +Balotelli racially abused


GDANSK - Wtf, lol... a Spanish fan.
Maybe unexpected (according to the media and recent results), very good game by former world champions Italy, drawing 1-1 vs 2008 Europe and 2010 World Champions of Spain, still very strong today. Tactics taming better quality players, great job by Prandelli. A good result, playing on the same level against those who usually dominated the game for years. Scoring first, with "stay young" Di Natale (35 years old), who could also score another one (he played the last 30 minutes as substitute of Balotelli).
Incredible chance failed by Mario, took away the ball and was (was, then reached by Ramos) alone in front of the goalkeeper... it was too easy, he can only do difficult things :)
Also, a magic touch by Mario with his heel (people applauding). There could also be a penalty (Mario got angry), it was a foul (he was the first on the ball) but the referee didn't concede it, maybe it wasn't. It also seemed that the referee was looking for a reason to book him. Then, he was substituted, classic :). A negative match for him.
Chelsea Spanish Torres was the usual disgrace (much worse than Mario), 2 easy chances and should have been sent off. In the rules, elbow = red card, not yellow. If it was Mario doing that, it would have been a scandal.
In the next one vs Croatia (14 June) Mario must keep calm and be colder. I would also pick AC Milan's goalscoring midfielder Nocerino instead of slow Thiago Motta of Paris Saint Germain (ex Inter Milan).

Some say the Spanish fans racially abused Balotelli... Uefa is investigating. Dutch players were subjected to racist chanting while training in Krakow, Poland.
Thomas Herzog, a member of the FSE Fans Embassy team for Spanish supporters, said: “We were present during the match inside the football stadium and stayed inside the stand of the Spanish supporters over the entire course of the match. At some point during the match then, about 200 supporters started monkey chants when the Italian player Mario Balotelli touched the ball.”
Well, they said Polish people would have booed Mario. Would like to see what could happen in case of Poland-Italy (almost impossible to happen, Italy's group is combined with England's for the quarter finals... it would be great to have an England-Italy).
Come on England today, against france, that are usually common enemies of England and Italy.
It's absurd that Hodgson didn't call up Manchester City's Richards and Adam Johnson (fantastic player, very stylish). When a club wins a league, the manager should call many players from them (as to have a winning basis that is used to play together), also for the enthusiasm and fresh winning mentality they still have. 

If you're playing the Pretty Green Euro 2012 competition... again, as @ World Cup 2010, I predicted a team and exact minute: Poland, 17th minute, I'm a wizard ;) (Grande Mago ;D the Scottish Great Magician, you remember). Just one of my anticipatiiiions :)

Stone Roses in Barcelona with Liam

BARCELONA - Contrary to the moaning diva Noel Gallagher, here's one who's got no problem in taking photos with fans, I often see funny pics. Last night I invited Liam to the Milan gig, let's see if he's free (as in one of my anticipatiiiions, showing Leonardo Da Vinci horse - the biggest equestrian statue in the world - the venue changed: Ippodromo racecourse near the legendary San Siro stadium, near where Oasis first played in Milano in 1995). He said he wants to go to many of their gigs, "better than sex".
Seminal U.K. rock band the Stone Roses made a triumphant start to their comeback tour, playing a hit-filled, 90-minute set at Barcelona's intimate Razzmatazz venue.
The rapturously-received gig was the 1st date in the Manchester-formed band's eagerly-anticipated 2012 world tour, which includes three shows at Manchester's Heaton Park, June 29 - July 1 (with Beady Eye playing and Noel Gallagher selling hotdogs... the premature ejaculator was ready to move his gig... oh, they didn't choose him). The U.K. shows, which are promoted by Manchester-based SJM, sold out in just over an hour, with fans snapping up all 220,000 tickets.
Having disbanded in 1996, following the departure of founder member John Squire, and a disastrous subsequent headline set at that year's Reading festival, last month saw all four original members of the Stone Roses - singer Ian Brown, guitarist Squire, drummer Alan 'Reni' Wren and bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield - share a stage together for the first time since 1990, when they performed a low-key, free 60-minute show at Warrington Parr Hall on May 23, which had been announced only hours earlier via the band's official website.
Last night's Barcelona concert (June 8) marked the official start of the group's highly lucrative 27-date world tour, with a highly vocal and largely British crowd - which included Oasis members Liam Gallagher and Gem Archer - filling the approximately 2,500-capacity venue. They were not to be disappointed.
Beginning with a stirring rendition of the band's eponymous debut album opener "I Wanna Be Adored," the on form four-piece delivered a 14-song set, spanning its two studio albums, 1989's "The Stone Roses" and 1994's "Second Coming." Among the highlights was a rare live outing of 1989 single "Fools Gold," which culminated in an epic instrumental jam; a driving, distortion-drenched rendition of "Love Spreads" (complete with Ian Brown rap), and resplendent versions of fan favorites "Waterfall," "Mersey Paradise," "She Bangs The Drums" and "Made of Stone."
The often-derided vocals of singer Ian Brown, while still far from angelic, were thankfully a vast improvement on the tuneless croak that characterized the band's final days in the late 1990s. In line with the band's May 23 Warrington show, the group played no new material.
The evening ended with a ten-minute encore of "I Am The Resurrection" before all four members joined each other arm-in-arm at the front of stage, to rapturous applause. The Stone Roses is due to play a second show at Barcelona's Razzmatazz venue today (June 9, my birthday :), before calling at Amsterdam's Heineken Music Hall (June 12) and Sweden's Hulstfred Festival (June 14).
The band will also appear at Denmark's NorthSide Festival (June 16), Germany's Hurricane Festival (June 22), Spain's Benicassim Festival (July 14) and Japan's Fuji Rock festival (July 27) before wrapping the tour at Belfast's Vital festival on August 22.

..... Balotelli ahahaha and City symbol on Noel's guitar :). This tune was my alarm clock to wake up in the morning from '97 to 2000. At a 1997 gig after the first chord of 'Be here now' I was literally flying, gone fuckin' mad fer it, continuously shouting and jumping embraced with all the people. Best fun of my life.
