Oasis-Elvis-Sinatra-McQueen Baracuta

LONDON - Some days ago I was writing about Steve McQueen and his jacket which inspired Pretty Green GP jacket. Here's another one. The first Harrington-style jackets were made by British clothing company Baracuta in the 1930s: it was started by John Miller and his brothers in Chorlton, Manchester, in 1937. As of 2008, the company still makes the same model, the G9. Elvis Presley popularized the Baracuta G9 when he wore it in his 1958 movie King Creole. Liam would appreciate this. Similar to the 1950s United States Ivy League look, the jacket became fashionable in the United Kingdom in the 1960s among Mods and Skinheads. Even the girls got on board, Natalie Wood was even sporting one in the late 50’s early 60’s. They again became popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s with Skinhead and Mod revivalists, as well as with Scooterboys with Italian Lambretta and Vespa. Within those subcultures, Harringtons are often worn with Fred Perry or Ben Sherman shirts. In addition to Baracuta, companies that have made Harrington jackets include: Fred Perry, Izod, Merc London, Ben Sherman, Lyle and Scott, Lonsdale and Warrior Clothing.
Steve McQueen and Italian origins Frank "The Voice" Sinatra (Italian parents) were frequent wearers of the Harrington.
And Zani says: Liam and Noel probably argued who has the most g9’s in their wardrobe. Last week I was chatting with a French guy who had a cheap market version on, and he remarked how great the Harrington is. I had to tell him his was not a real one as it’s lined with a cloth like a horse blanket. I then showed him mine and told him horses sleep on horse blankets, princes sleep on Baracutas. Cruel I know but someone had to tell him…
You can find an original Baracuta with Oasis logo on the official site, 3 colours available, English navy blue, cream and Manchester City blue sky :) (but very light colour)
